Project Description:
UCLA Tarjan Center and California Department of Rehabilitation are conducting PEERS for Careers for autistic 18-21 year autistic California residents who are enrolled in college with an IEP/504 and willing to become a DOR client. The program is based on empirically validated social skills taught in the PEERS for Young Adults curriculum, one of the only evidence-based social skills interventions for adults with ASD, in combination with new material focused on skills needed to gain and maintain meaningful, competitive employment. This 16 weekly evidence-based employment-focused social skiils program is deisgned to help autistic adults obtain and mantain meaningful employment. Skills covered include to choosing a career, esume writing, conversational skills, electronic communication, professional networking, i completing job applications, interviewing skills, requesting accomodations, stress management, anad conflict resolution/management skills. Pre-and post-comparisons of social functioning and job acquisition/retention, along with participant and stakeholder feedback, will be assessed.
