Project Description:
Purpose. The purpose of this project is to establish and operate a Maternal Peer-Based Recovery Support Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to improve maternal health outcomes in Missouri. The TAC will strengthen peer-based recovery support programs for pregnant and postpartum individuals with substance use disorders (SUD) or co-occurring SUD and mental health conditions by providing training, technical assistance, and evaluation support to grantees and stakeholders statewide. This initiative builds directly on UMKC-IHD's leadership of the Maternal Health Action Network (MHAN) and the Moms' Advocacy Network, which already bring together providers, peer leaders, and mothers with lived experience to address maternal health and behavioral health challenges across Missouri. Primary Activities • Establish a statewide TAC • Conduct an initial and annual training and technical assistance needs assessment. • Develop and maintain a public-facing website as a clearinghouse of maternal peer support and recovery resources. • Convene a steering committee including individuals with lived experience, peer leaders, and cross-system stakeholders. • Deliver training and TA to program sites on maternal peer-based recovery, trauma- informed care, and cross-system collaboration. • Provide program evaluation support and develop site-level sustainability plans. • Track and report on training, TA, and site outcomes to DHSS annually. Expected Outcomes • Strengthened capacity of Missouri's maternal peer recovery support programs to address SUD and co-occurring mental health conditions. • Improved access to evidence-based peer support services for pregnant and postpartum individuals. • Increased provider knowledge and cross-training across maternal health and behavioral health systems. • Reduced service gaps and disparities contributing to maternal morbidity and mortality. • A sustainable statewide infrastructure for peer-based recovery support beyond the grant period.
