Project Description:
The UCEDD Core Grant is a grant funded by the Administration on Community Living that desiogntes the University of Arkansas-Partners as the UCEDD for Arkansas. It directly funds infrastructure for the Center includng rent, utilizies, materials and suplies and support staff salaries. It enables us to leverage numerous other grants that expand our reach and purpose. The activities of the Core grant all relate to the four Core functions, required by ACL, including interdisciplinary training, information dissemination, community services, and research. The activities are widely varied in terms of target audience, location, purpose and intended outcome, while all relate to increased participation of people with disabilities in community life. These activities are accomplished with a widely varied group of collaborators including the developmental disabilities network members (P&A and DD Council) state agencies, local non-profit providers, national organizations and individuals who are advocates for people with disabilties. Partners' strategy for systems change is always to equip the existing systems to support people with disabilties rather than creating a parallel university to provide such support. For example, our work in violence preventions attempts to influence the existing system for domestic violence so existing shelters can respond to women with disabilities and or children with disabiltiies who come into a shelter, rather than creating a DV shelter for families impacted by disability. THe ecpected benefits of these services are that people with disabilities experience community alongside their peers with increased participation and improved quality of life.
