Inclusive and Equitable Futures: Trauma-Informed Practice in Preschool Supports
Project Description:
Inclusive and Equitable Futures: TIPPS builds on existing school-to-prison pipeline research, partnerships, and projects to reduce the number of young children who enter the pipeline during early education. The project includes extensive background research through (1) an environment scan of programs aimed to reduce disciplinary action in Pennsylvania preschools and early learning facilities, (2) interviews with educators and caregivers about what they observe of classroom behaviors and disciplinary responses, and (3) a review of national and international evidence-based trauma-informed practices for early childhood centers, all of which is translated into actionable one-page resources for everyday use by early childhood educators and caregivers. Additionally, this project involves the design of a self-evaluation measure through which school staff can gain insights into their own implicit bias, assess inequitable classroom and school policies and practices, and acknowledge positive approaches.
