Project Description:
The Institute on Disabilities has administered the activities of the federal Assistive Technology Act (AT Act) since it was designated to do so by Pennsylvania's Governor over 30 years ago. The mandated activities of the AT Act include Device Demonstrations, Device Lending, State Financing (AT), Device Reutilization, Public Awareness, Training, and Technical Assistance. Each state and US territory has one designated AT Act program. Benefits of the program: making Pennsylvanians aware of AT and related services, helping people with disabilities make informed choices about AT that could help them (as opposed to the medical model of prescribing devices for someone).
