Refugee Tutoring and Mentoring Program
Project Description:
The Public & School Partnership (PSP) at Utah State University (USU) proposed to increase tutoring and mentoring services for secondary school students from refugee families in Cache County, Utah. Many children from new American families are unfamiliar with the U.S. school system and have missed entire years of schooling while in refugee camps. Furthermore, parents often work low-wage jobs and are unable to assist with homework due to language or educational barriers. We proposed to use tutoring and mentoring services to increase student academic performance, high school graduation rates, and post-secondary educational attainment, as well as reduce intergenerational poverty among refugee families.
