Spanish Translation (DIAAID) FY26
Project Description:
This project is for the Spanish translation of a research surveillance tool to establish the prevalence of co-occurring mental health conditions among the population of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The following services will be provided by the USU UCEDD to produce stated deliverables:
1) Translate/adapt the Diagnostic Interview for Adolescents and Adults with Intellectual Disability (DIAAID) structured interview protocol in its entirety into the Spanish language (Mexican usted dialect). This deliverable includes text-only translation of all modules as well as instructions to interviewers throughout both Study Partner (SP) and Adult with ID versions (AID) of the DIAAID measure.
a) Begin with translation/adaptation of the SP version of the DIAAID measure and complete translation/adaptation of the SP version before transitioning to the AID version of the DIAAID.
b) Work with OSU to coordinate a multistep and iterative language translation/adaptation process that will include: i) using the proposed committee approach to translation/adaptation; ii) recruiting at least two bilingual professionals at USU to conduct initial translation/adaptation of the DIAAID from English to Spanish; iii) recruiting a small committee of bilingual clinicians knowledgeable in ID and behavioral health to review translation accuracy and clinical acuity, including instructions to interviewers; iv) translating/adapting and reviewing different modules or sections of measure simultaneously to maximize production efficiency; and v) obtaining feedback on measure to assess the clarity of the translation/adaptation with up to 15 Spanish-speaking members of the local community.
2) Translate, review, and obtain community feedback on the accompanying SP and AID DIAAID demographic surveys, the Behavior Problems Inventory for Individuals with ID (BPI), the My Health and Wellbeing Survey (MHWBS), the Children's Alexithymia Measure (CAM) adapted for adults, and the adapted Life Events for Persons with ID (BLESID) using the identified iterative process.
