Project Description:
During the grant year, Missouri LEND trains a number of long-term trainees from disciplines such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy,Social Work, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Health Management and Informatics, and Family and Self-Advocates, among others. Long-term trainee schedules includes a semester of didactic classes focusing on screening, assessment and medication for autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as cultural competence, leadership and team development. During the second semester, the focus is on on diagnostic clinic activities. The majority of these activities focus on children who present with the question of a possible autism diagnosis.
All trainees present posters in the Spring on their leadership projects. These require literature searches, evidence-based practice, IRB clearance as well as improving skills in the areas of written and oral communication and presentation as part of these research-based projects.
