Project Description:
The Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities will partner with the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disability to build capacity for providing culturally and linguistically responsive services for individuals with co-occurring intellectual disabilities and mental health issues. The Sonoran Center will contribute the expertise of its personnel to recruit individuals with disabilities and their families to participate in the design of services and supports, develop products and resources that address needs, and provide trainings and technical assistance to professionals and individuals with disabilities. Efforts will focus on improving the competencies of the disability workforce to promote equitable access to needed services and supports that result in full inclusion by people with disabilities in all aspects of their communities. Information will be disseminated to a variety of audiences through written and electronic formats, webinars, continuing education, and other universally designed platforms. People with disabilities and family members will play a significant role in informing project activities and participating as co-trainers, developers, and advisors.
