NCHAM Online Modules for Newborn Hearing Screening Training Curriculum
Project Description:
Over the past 15 years NCHAM has developed and refined a on-line curriculum (http://www.infanthearing.org/nhstc/) for training newborn hearing screeners. Modules are available on a fee-for-service basis and are self-paced, available on demand, and use pre/post-tests to evaluate mastery. The content is regularly updated based on input from an advisory committee. Participants complete a pre and post-test regarding the content of the NHSTC (average pre-test scores were 73.1% and average post-test scores were 88.1%). People who scored at least 80% can obtain a certificate of completion. During 2024 the curriculum was completed by 4,259 people who eceived a Certificate of Completion (and 350 people who previously completed the course completed the Re-certification module and received a certificate). At least six states (IL, CA, TX, AZ, UT, and NJ) require or strongly recommend that all hospital-based screeners complete the NHSTC. Fifty-seven of the 59 states and territories who received federal EHDI funding from had people complete the NHSTC during the past year.
