NCHAM National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management Resource Center
Project Description:
NCHAM's EHDI Resources Center works to ensure that EHDI programs are able to meet the following benchmarks recommended by the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing and endorsed by MCHB and CDC.
All newborns:
1) receive hearing screening before 1 month of age, and
2) for those who do not pass, receive diagnostic audiological evaluations before 3 months of age, and
3) those identified as Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) are referred to appropriate early intervention services before 6 months of age.
All families of infants identified as DHH:
4) receive culturally-competent support and information, and
5) are linked to a family-centered medical home.
All 0-3 year old children:
6) receive periodic hearing screening and have appropriate follow up.
All State EHDI systems:
7) are linked to other relevant public health information systems, and
8) use ongoing quality improvement methods to continually enhance services.
The EHDI Resource Center provides leadership and resources for EHDI stakeholders nationwide by:
1. Providing support to state EHDI programs through technical assistance, training, education, and quality improvement (QI);
2. Identifying, compiling, analyzing, and disseminating evidence-based and innovative practices, policies, tools, and resources to improve hearing services for newborns, infants and young children up to the age of 3 who are DHH; and
3. Developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships with national organizations and key stakeholders, including organizations or programs that represent and/or serve families of children who are DHH.
