Project Description:
Project Aims: 1. Determine the feasibility of delivering an online, self-guided, single-session ACT program among autistic adults (henceforth called ACT Lite for Autistic Adults). a. Hypothesis 1: We anticipate 100 autistic adults will enroll in the program. b. Hypothesis 2: We anticipate at least 75% retention in the session and follow-up surveys. 2. Determine the acceptability of ACT Lite for Autistic Adults among autistic adults. a. Hypothesis 3: We hypothesize that users mean score (overall, user satisfaction) on the System Usability Scale (SUS; Bangor et al., 2008) will be greater than 70 (out of 100). b. Hypothesis 4: We hypothesize that qualitative feedback will reflect the SUS and have an overall, positive tone. We also anticipate receiving feedback that will help us further refine future iterations of the intervention to be more responsive to the specific needs of autistic adults. 3. Determine the preliminary efficacy of ACT Lite for Autistic Adults. a. Hypothesis 5: We will see significant increases in overall quality of life (PROMIS global-10, Williams et al., 2023) from baseline scores to post-treatment assessment. These increases will be maintained at the 1-month follow-up. b. Hypothesis 6: We will see significant decreases in mental health concerns (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21, Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) from baseline scores to post-intervention scores. These decreases will be maintained at the 1-month follow-up. c. Hypothesis 7: We will see significant increases in psychological flexibility (COMPact, Francis et al., 2016; Valuing Questionnaire, Smout et al., 2014), a strengths-based protective factor that may increase quality of life amidst mental health concerns, from baseline scores to post-intervention scores. These increases will be maintained at the 1-month follow-up.
