Project Description:

This research is intended to confront ableism in healthcare for people with disabilities. The investigators have designed research aims and strategies to reduce implicit bias in the practice of healthcare professionals working with people with disabilities. Diagnostic overshadowing, meaning when a healthcare professional considers the person's health problem as an aspect of their long-term disability, is one of the main reasons why the health needs of people with disabilities are not addressed in a timely and appropriate manner. The investigators use a collective impact model to learn why diagnostic overshadowing occurs and develop strategies and approaches to overcome it, thus improving the healthcare experiences of people with disabilities.
