Supporting the mental health of young people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities through peer-delivered programming

Center:

Contact Information:
Project Description:
We will conduct a pilot-RCT of a new peer-delivered mental health intervention for young adults (ages 18-30) with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who have co-occurring mental health conditions (YAIDD-MH). Using an inclusive research approach, we will: (1) adapt a promising mental health intervention, StepUp; (2) conduct feasibility a feasibility trial of peer-delivered StepUp ("StepUp-Peer"); and (3) conduct a pilot-RCT of StepUp-Peer. The findings from this research will provide important information about the potential effects of a mental health intervention for this underserved population. Additionally, it will lay groundwork for future peer-delivered interventions for individuals with IDD.
