ELEVATE: Equipping Learning, Empowering Vision, Achieving Transitions, and Engaging Families—A Doctoral Leadership Initiative
Project Description:
This project is a consortium between the University of Oklahoma, the University of Connecticut, the Sam Houston State University, the University of Arkansas, the Ohio State University, and the University of Kansas Special Education doctoral programs. ELEVATE will train approximately 20 scholars across six universities to become leaders in secondary transition in higher education. Scholars will be trained with a specific focus on secondary special education and transition and the transition into adult life for students with disabilities. Each scholar will obtain a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) through their home institution. The purpose of the grant is to increase the number of educational leaders (i.e., higher education faculty; state, district, and local school administration; and other leadership personnel) knowledgeable in transition services who also demonstrate competencies necessary to prepare educators and engage in high quality, applied research to advance practice, policy, and research with a focus on improving post-school outcomes for youth with disabilities, particularly youth with high-intensity needs.
