Center on Disablity and Devleopment - CORE FUNDING
Project Description:
The Center on Disability and Development (CDD) at Texas A&M University is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The mission of the CDD is "We support individuals with disabilities and their families to be change agents who are valued, contributing community members, as self-defined, through education, research, and knowledge dissemination." Based on this mission, the CDD works toward four overarching goals: (a) provide pre-service training and continuing education that promote inclusive, quality education and community settings for people with disabilities; (b) provide training and technical assistance, and services and support, to individuals with disabilities, family members, and professionals on a variety of topics that promote inclusive, quality education and community settings; (c) conduct research and evaluation studies that advance the knowledge base, contribute to improved evidence-based practices, and effect meaningful change in educational and community quality of life outcomes for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families; and (d) develop and maintain a broad array of information dissemination strategies.
The CDD's five-year work plan for 2020-2025 included 30 major objectives organized under four overarching goals that address the four core functions. These objectives are regularly evaluated in the context of our location and based on the needs of those we serve. This has led to revisions to the original five-year work plan, with the addition of 5 more objectives and multiple activities and projects. Throughout FY 2024, the CDD continued to work towards these objectives, but also saw the creation of new projects/programs and the revision and adaptation of previous programs.
