Project Description:
Established in July 2024 as a dedicated sub-clinic within the University of Rochester's Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) Clinic. Creation of dedicated refugee/language access clinic to support children of refugee status with disabilities and their families. Clinic team includes a social worker, research specialist/coordinator, and a developmental-behavioral pediatrician. This DBP Clinic provides subspecialty developmental and behavioral evaluations and ongoing DBP care to children of refugee status or other children newly arrived to Rochester whose families speak languages other than English. This clinic is designed to: Strengthen PCP-to-DBP referral and linkage through a dedicated referral pathway, reduce wait times and improve access to DBP Care through a dedicated referral pathway and clinical provider, establish continuity of care and cuild relationships with known and trusted providers, improve Care Coordination and Cross-Systems Collaboration, including with primary care, social services, and school teams, increase family understanding of community resources available to people with IDD/their families.
