Project Description:
This project provides specialized training for Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) students at UW, focusing on their involvement as long-term trainees in the LEND program at the IHDD during their second and third years. Trainees receive didactic and clinical experience, preparing them to provide services and support in clinical, early intervention, and educational settings, and to become leaders in their discipline. The project includes a specialized curriculum that enhances community capacity for pediatric audiology services. In their first year, trainees complete foundational coursework in adult and pediatric audiology. Year two focuses on specialized audiology areas and clinical practica at IHDD specialty clinics. In year three, trainees continue required coursework, and develop and present a LEND leadership project. In year four, clinical rotations focus on pediatric audiology in the community. Counseling practica involve working with standardized patients to improve their skills, and trainees also learn strategies for working with families of newly diagnosed children through early intervention consultants.
