Project Description:
The Washington State Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic & Prevention Network (FASDPN) is a network of Washington State community-based clinics led by the core clinical/research/training FASDPN clinic at the University of Washington IHDD. Within the first 5 years of the establishment of the FASDPN, empirical evidence confirmed both maternal consumption of alcohol during pregnancy and the prevalence of births impacted by FASD were significantly reduced statewide. The CDC-sponsored FASDPN clinic at the IHDD was first established in 1993 through support from the Centers for Disease Control. This single clinic was expanded into the statewide FASDPN clinical network in 1995 through legislation (Senate Bill 5688). In 2024, the WA State legislature approved House Bill 1168 to expand FASD diagnostic and intervention services.
