Project Description:
UDiscover is a 2-week residential college and career exploration program for students 16 years and older enrolled in high school, an 18-22 year old program, or entering college in the fall. It is offered in partnership with the Delaware Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC), the Freedom Center for Independent Living, and the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC).
UDiscover attendees participate in person-centered job shadowing opportunities, explore 4 year and community college opportunities, and participate in self advocacy and independent living workshops. They spend 2 weeks living on campus where they apply time management and self regulation skills and utilize the natural resources on UD's campus. At the end of the program, students present a PowerPoint presentation to their support teams reflecting on their UDiscover experiences and identifying goals to add to their IEP and 504 plans that will help prepare them for their postsecondary goals.
Funding is made possible through Pre-Employment Transition Services and additional sources through DVR, and from the SILC and Freedom Center.
