Project Description: The "AT Solutions" Program, administered by the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (DATI), was established with financial support from Highmark Health Options, one of three Medicaid managed care organizations in Delaware, to address the fact that many people need access to assistive devices to enhance safety, productivity and/or quality of life, yet many of these useful products are not covered by traditional insurance. With referral from a Highmark case manager or self-referral, HHO members visit one of the two Assistive Technology Resource Centers operated by DATI. DATI AT Specialists learn more about their needs and show them some products that might address those needs. The DATI inventory contains thousands of items that can help with vision, hearing, activities of daily living, learning, computer access, self-regulation, environmental control and recreation and leisure. When one or more promising products are identified, the HHO member can borrow them to make sure that they actually work for them in their customary environments. Once they get that evidence, they return the loaner device to the ATRC and DATI purchases that item for them and it becomes theirs to keep.
