Fiscal Year:
2025
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Project STIR™ (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility) is a training program for self-advocates designed to provide people with disabilities with the tools to advocate for themselves, work with others in advocacy and gain leadership experiences. The Project STIR training is provided by the Ohio Self Determination Association (OSDA), through its Council of Ohio Leaders (COOL) and is partially funded by the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act. The Project STIR Pilot Program will help the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW), Office for Exceptional Children (OEC) build capacity to deliver a regional system of training, support, coordination, and direct service for secondary transition services for students with disabilities beginning at fourteen years of age. This project will focus on integrating the skills of self-determination and self-advocacy for transition age youth, an area that needs improvement and is a predictor of post school success for students with disabilities.
