GSC App: Examining Initial Efficacy of GoalSettingChallenge App:Impacts of Technology-Delivered Self-Determination Instruction on Secondary/Transition
Project Description:
Researchers at the Universities of Kansas (KU) and North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Education, Office of Special Education (ADE-OSE) and Arkansas Transition Services (ATS), will collaborate to examine the initial efficacy of the Goal Setting Challenge (GSC) App a fully-developed, technology-delivered self-determination intervention developed with support from a previous IES NCSER Development and Innovation Grant (R324A180012; PI Shogren). We will examine the impacts of the GSC App on the secondary/transition outcomes (i.e., self-determination; transition goal attainment; academic/transition engagement) and post-school outcomes (i.e., graduation, access to and progress in post-secondary education, employment) of secondary students with disabilities. We will examine the efficacy of the GSC app in comparison to (1) business as usual (transition assessment only) and (2) teacher-delivered Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI) instruction. This project will provide important information to guide schools and teachers is selecting the most effective, including cost-effective, self-determination interventions that enhance student outcomes. This is critically important given the evidence-base suggesting self-determination instruction is a positive predictor of enhanced in-school and post-school outcomes, as well as the demands that teacher-delivered SDLMI instruction can place on teachers and the potential of the GSC App to provide an alternative means to deliver self-determination instruction.
