LIDS - Ace! Autism College Experience
Project Description:
Students on the autism spectrum at the university level typically encounter challenges related to integrating information and assimilating socially within the university culture. Ace! is intended to provide a myriad of support/guidance services for Ohio State University and other central Ohio college students who are on the autism spectrum. Students receive individual and group counseling, assistance with self-advocacy, and help with study skills and time management. Ace! is unique in that its coordinator is an MSW Social Worker and the program volunteers are typically undergraduate/graduate Social Work students in the process of completing their field placement requirements. We believe the Social Work perspective is extremely important in terms of understanding the psycho-social environment of the university. Social Work staff and volunteers have particular insights regarding systems and self-advocacy and are extremely talented in assisting students in linking with existing community-based and university organizations and support services.
