Project

Justice 5.2 Reducing Recidivism Conference

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2025
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The Specialized Skills and Service Training on Serving Cognitively Impaired Offenders is a statewide conference for providers serving offenders with cognitive disabilities. The focus of the conference will be on training in specific interventions and support strategies targeting offenders with cognitive disabilities. This training builds on the FY07/08 conferences that focused on assessment, best practices, and specific populations (e.g., Alaskan native, FASD, and developmental disabilities). Providing specialized training in these areas increases the safety of the community and the direct care providers and minimizing the risks that the offender will be institutionalized within a psychiatric or a correctional institution. Data on how the funding is utilized and how the skills and clinical knowledge gained by the provider and their staff is applied will be collected and relationships to reductions in length of stays at API and correctional institutions will be analyzed. It is anticipated that a percentage of these funds will be used to provide travel support to rural provider participants outside of the Anchorage Bowl and Mat-Su Borough.
