Project Description:
The ADD Core Grant is the funding from the ADministration on Disabilities that designates Partners for Inclusive Commuities as the UCEDD in Arkansas. The grant supports the infrastrucure of the Center including support staff, office lease, utilities and the cost of specific activities. Partners for Inclusive Communities, in partnership with the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, Disability Rights Arkansas and other key stakeholders, will improve the opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities to experience full participation and belonging in their communities. The goals of this project are: (1) to prepare future health-care professionals to respond to the needs of people with disabilities, (2) to provide training and assistance to people with disabilities, service providers, policy makers and others in areas associated with disabilities, (3) to conduct pertinent research, and (4) to share information with interested parties. The objectives are to increase knowledge and skills of future health care workers; to increase the participation of minorities in these professions; to increase the knowledge and skills of people with disabilities, their families and community organizations who support them, including self-advocates and minority populations; to develop exemplary services for early intervention and crisis prevention/intervention; to conduct research on topics important to people with disabilities/families; to disseminate information about Partners, its projects/activities and research; and to facilitate community acceptance of disabilities. Anticipated outcomes include: (1) more people with developmental disabilities living in the community, (2) more preschool and school-age students educated in inclusive settings; (3) more children with ASD identified early and provided evidence-based services; (4) more highly qualified Direct Support Professionals; (5) increased use of positive behavioral support strategies; (6) reduced use of punitive consequences, restraint and seclusion; and (7) increased numbers of active self-advocates, parents and allys advocating for systems change. Products will include public awareness information, brochures, training materials, research articles, web pages and social media platforms.
