        Project Description:
The Career and Life Studies Certificate (CLSC) Program is a certificate program for students with intellectual disabilities (ID) providing academic, career/technical and independent living instruction in preparation for gainful employment with an option to inclusively live on campus in the residence halls. CLSC students attend classes, participate in internships and work experiences and engage in many campus activities. Up to fifteen students will be admitted each academic year. CLSC is offered through University of Delaware's Division of Professional and Continuing Studies. CLSC is a model demonstration program designed to deliver a high quality, inclusive and comprehensive postsecondary transition program that assists students with ID to reach their employment, education and independent living goals. Program evaluation is conducted in order to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the model, as well as its outcomes for participants. Dissemination and replication activities will be conducted in order to promote similar programs across the state. The program was originally funded with a $2.3M award from the U.S. Department of Education and is one of 27 different Transition and Postsecondary programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSIDs) located across the country. All TPSID sites are connected through the national coordinating center, national and regional professional conferences, regular meetings, collaboration, and evaluation. CLSC is currently self funded through a program fee.
