Project Description:
Through this Family-to-Family mini-grant, the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities seeks to assist families in navigating the end of the Public Health Emergency (PHE) and Medicaid unwinding. WIND plans to reach more than three hundred families of Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) through material distribution and outreach through our Family-to-Family Health Information Program and in partnership with Enroll Wyoming. The Family-to-Family Program includes delivery of materials and training through monthly newsletters and online training opportunities. Through these materials, we provide families opportunities for learning, advocacy, and mentorship with families that have a child with developmental disabilities, autism, or other special health care needs. Enroll Wyoming assists families with accessing Marketplace insurance plans and navigating Medicaid enrollment information. Two components of Family-to-Family information dissemination include projects known as University of Wyoming Project ECHO™ (UW ECHO™) and Inventory of Client and Agency Planning Assessments (ICAP). Our UW ECHO™ for Families network currently focuses on the CYSHCN demographic and utilizes a listserv of 298 contacts. Using these contacts and other forms of outreach, WIND's Family-to-Family Health Information Center seeks to provide greater access to health care for families, children, and youth with special health care needs. This center currently has free technology available that families can utilize for telehealth appointments, including online training sessions. This is imperative as Wyoming is a rural state and many individuals with disabilities may not have access to the technology needed to access online training. The Wyoming Institute for Disabilities will also provide Zoom Learning Aids to assist people with navigating this meeting technology. Additionally, we will offer monthly virtual office hours where families of children with special health care needs can join to discuss any questions, and concerns, they may have regarding the end of the PHE and Medicaid redeterminations.
