Project Description:
This project amplifies the lived experiences of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) identifying as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) regarding communication with their doctors. In collaboration with two self-advocacy organizations, the Richmond Center for Independent Living and the Virginia Arc A Life Like Yours alliance,we will provide an avenue, through a photovoice research project, for BIPOC with IDD to advocate for change by sharing their stories about patient-doctor communication. Research findings will target the medical community and will be disseminated through virtual and in-person gallery walks in Richmond, Virginia.
