Project Description:
Project I-EMPLOY (Inclusive-Emergency Management Program and Leadership Opportunities in Youth) will respond to the chronic shortage and absence of inclusive emergency management in American Samoa. Emergency preparedness and management continue to exclude disability and access functional needs in planning, disconnects response and recovery amongst the disability and access functional needs community. Project I-EMPLOY is a career pathway multi-sector and interdisciplinary design to partner with various government and non-profit organizations. Project I-EMPLOY will increase a new generation of Disability Integration leaders in inclusive emergency management. The cadre of Disability Integration will fill the void of the American Samoa Government in the Emergency Operation Center across all emergency support functions (ESF) and recovery support functions (RSF). The coursework will align with the National Disaster Response Framework and National Disaster Recovery Framework. Partners from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health, and Red Cross will assist in merging practitioners and academics, Pracademics, to bring experiences into the classroom and research an inclusive tactical design for all. The project will recruit 25 trainees to complete a 30 credit Certificate in Inclusive Emergency Management.
