Project Description:
Ulu A`e Transitions 2.0 aims to improve the academic and HĀ achievement of at-promise students by focusing on strengthening resilience as a way of supporting successful navigation of students transitioning from Elem to Middle, Middle to High, and beyond. A primary objective is to create resources that incorporate culture-based and digital media skills-building learning activities to support a sense of belonging and personal identity essential for the academic, character, physical, and social-emotional well-being of all our students. Objective 1. Identity and package resources for teachers that incorporate culture-based and digital media skills building activities intended to strengthen resiliency of at-promise youth. Objective 2. Provide educators opportunities to participate in training where they build skills and confidence as well as share their knowledge and successes with their peers. Objective 3. Provide mentoring to schools and educators prepared to integrate HĀ outcomes into their classrooms and school programs. Objective 4. Determine impact of Ulu A`e Transitions 2.0 on student and educator groups. Objective 5. Promote and facilitate successful HĀ experiences of educators and their students. Objective 6. Share project resources and success stories of educators and students widely. Long term outcomes expected include: Native Hawaiian (NH) students successfully transitioning from ELEM to MIDDLE to HIGH school and beyond and graduating on time; Educators having a positive relationships w/ NH students and families and enhanced capacity for long-term professional commitment; Schools partnering with community to provide culture-based education professional development and support to teachers and culture-based education career focused experiences to NH students and using instructional strategies that engaged NH students.
