Project Description:
ILEND is the Iowa Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (ILEND) project. It provides interdisciplinary training at the graduate and postdoctoral levels in the fields of: Audiology Clinical psychology Community Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics Education Family Health care administration Medicine Nursing Pediatric dentistry Physical therapy Public health Self-advocacy Social work Speech language pathology The ILEND experience offers: Advanced clinical preparation - To improve the health across the lifespan of individuals with developmental disabilities, chronic health conditions, and other special needs. Leadership development - To improve the health across the lifespan of individuals with special health care needs and their families through improvements in public policy and systems. Training is provided in many ways, and through many venues: -ILEND seminar series, "Interdisciplinary Issues in Disabilities" -Clinical experiences including the Healy Outpatient Clinic at the Center for Disabilities and Development; Pediatric Regional Dental Clinics; Iowa Regional and Mobile Child Health Specialty Clinics, Iowa's Title V program for children with special health care needs; and community programs serving children with, or at risk for, developmental disabilities. -The ILEND Parents as Mentors program -Research experience, both in consumption and production of research -Cultural diversity through seminars, campus events, community opportunities, and partnership with the Puerto Rico UCEDD
