Project Description:
The South Carolina Act Early Team has been a national leader, at times, for issues related to improving early identification and intervention for young children with and at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorders. We have an amazing statewide group that works on key issues with no legislative support or funding (beyond an early AMCHP grant and the start up travel costs from CDC). We have collaborated in a variety of ways with the CDC LSTAE leadership, CMS Autism program manager, and AUCD on development, implementation and dissemination efforts. Our first in the nation policy/procedure to provide Part-C early intensive behavioral intervention for children AT RISK for ASD made groundbreaking changes for children and their families in South Carolina. An article in Pediatrics in 2017 describes this process and outcomes.
