Project Description:
This project evaluates First 4 ME, a two-generation, muiltidimensional framework for a proactive, coordinated birth to kindergarten-entry program to provide quality early care to support children's school readiness. Through a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods, the project will evaluate fidelity, children's social emotional educational and health outcomes, family status, participant satisfaction, funding structure, cost effectiveness, and effectiveness at supporting children, families, school districts, and child care providers. We propose to measure both short- and long-term outcomes, by linking to other data collected through school districts, other projects conducted by the University of Maine System, and the Maine Department of Education. There will be a special focus on at-risk populations. Technical assistance will also be provided, and final design of evaluation will be responsive to Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Child and Family Services and other stakeholders.
