Quality Improvement of the Kansas LEND Long Term Training Curriculum: A Pilot Project

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2024
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Aim Statement: We will improve the impact of the LEND Long Term Trainee curriculum on baseline ratings of disability attitudes; attitudes, skills and knowledge of interdisciplinary leadership practices, self-determination characteristics, and social connectedness by 10% on designated measures over the course of one training year. This project will identify and refine tools to measure LEND curriculum impact over the short term (1 year curriculum). This project will pilot those tools as specific measurement of impact of the LEND Long Term Trainee curriculum specifically on the following variables: 1) attitudes towards disability* (assessed by the following): Multidimensional Attitudes Towards Disabled People Scale 2) attitudes, skills and knowledge of interdisciplinary leadership practices (assessed by the following): KS LEND Pre-Post Curriculum Assessment (internal tool used to assess knowledge pre-post various curriculum content), LEND Training Plan self- and mentor ratings (completed in conjunction with review of LEND Training Plan, at 3 times points over the training year) and I-FOR Interdisciplinary, Interprofessional Team Building Measure 3) self-determination* – defined as acting as a "causal agent" in one's life, making things happen through self-regulated problem solving (Shogren & Raley, 2022) (assessed by the following): Self Determination Inventory, Semi-structured interviews related to goal setting, goal attainment steps, and problem solving 4) social connectedness* (assessed by the following) Social Connectedness Scale (Lee, Draper & Lee, 2008) *A recent review of existing literature indicates ZERO articles on the impact of LEND programs on these key factors impacting future professional practices and professional network building. Upon completion of this pilot year (2023-2024), the Kansas LEND program will have established consistent measurement tools to regularly assess Long Term training curriculum impact over the course of the grant and established a regular reporting mechanism in addition to existing longer term measurement.
