Language Diversity: Understanding and improving the availability of written Spanish materials in TUKHS Department of Pediatrics Pathfinder Proposal
Project Description:
The quality improvement project aims to improve the cultural responsiveness of clinical practices in the Department of Pediatrics by 1) increasing access to Spanish clinical and/or educational materials for families for whom English is not their native language, 2) gaining a greater understanding of how disabilities are viewed in Spanish-speaking and 3) increasing the awareness and understanding of the importance of early intervention services in Spanish-speaking.
Goals:
1. Increase the number of Spanish clinical/educational materials.
2. Build the infrastructure for sharing Spanish clinical/educational materials across The Department of Pediatrics.
3. Establish partnerships in Spanish-speaking communities in the Kansas City Metro area.
4. Increase the awareness and understanding of the importance of early intervention services in Spanish-speaking communities.
5. Develop an internal guiding document for systematically translating/adapting materials and gathering input from culturally diverse families/communities.
