Project Description:
Need: 1. Children in homeless shelters do not have adequate primary healthcare. 2. Children in homeless shelters do not receive adequate pediatric developmental screening. 3. Parents have limited access to quality educational and healthcare programs. Objectives: 1. Provide homeless children and youth with multi-disciplinary developmental screening and appropriate referfals in 3 West Philadelphia shelters. 2. Provide educational programs in child development and effective black parenting to shelter residents and staff. Goals: 1. LEND Fellows will learn how to provide educational programs in shelters. 2. LEND Fellows will learn to contribute to the development of mechanisms to empower parents of homeless children to appropriately access HC and navigate the medical and insurance systems. 3.
