Project Description:
The goal is to build an innovative self-advocate led, health and safety monitoring system designed to protect adults living in HCBS settings against abuse, neglect, and exploitation; and create a comprehensive career pathway to ensure that (a) providers support individuals through the use of evidence-based approaches aligned with principles of person-centered thinking and self-determination; and (b) individuals have the tools necessary to advocate, protect, and guide their own lives. The objectives are to: (1) finalize a nationally relevant, replicable plan to carry out the ILW work scope; (2) create an innovative, collaborative, self-advocate led quality assurance monitoring and reporting system; (3) develop a train-the-trainer model for self-advocate leaders to conduct statewide training on abuse, neglect and exploitation, self-advocacy, principles of person-centered thinking, self-determination, and supported decision making; (4) establish a comprehensive career pathway for direct support staff guided by evidence-based practices aligned with principles of self-determination and person-centered thinking; (5) deliver sustainable, accessible training for direct support staff guided by evidence-based practices; and (6) create all materials, trainings, and protocols in accessible, culturally and linguistically competent formats, with specific focus on rural/remote and Latinx communities of Idaho. The long-term outcome is to increase the percent of adults with I/DD directing their own lives, free from abuse, engaged in their communities, and satisfied with the care they receive. The resulting product will be a replicable blue print of Idahos Living Well Model.
