COVID-19 Vaccine Equity and Access Project (MVP)

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2024
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute (MI-DDI) at Wayne State University in collaboration with several interdisciplinary partners will join efforts with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Immunizations Division, on the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) COVID-19 Vaccination Supplement 4. Data show that long-standing systemic health and social inequities have put some groups, such as individuals with disabilities, at increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19. The goal of the supplement is to ensure greater equity and access to COVID-19, COVID-19 boosters, and other vaccinations (Influenza, Chickenpox, etc.) by those disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. This goal will be achieved through the following objectives: 1. Improve understanding of disproportionately affected populations and barriers to vaccination access and uptake; 2. Develop, cultivate, and/or strengthen community-based partnerships to reach disproportionately affected populations; 3. Improve access to COVID-19 vaccines (expand and diversity opportunities for getting vaccinated); and 4. Improve and expand messaging/education around vaccination. The above objectives will result in an increase of vaccinated people with disabilities, their family members, and caregivers; people who are homebound or isolated; people with transportation limitations; and people living in communities with high social vulnerability index. These activities will also improve access to and preparation for other necessary vaccines for underserved individuals.
