Project Description:
Funding for public health initiative was received to our Center under two separate funding allocations: One for our UCEDD and one for our Statewide Technology Access Program which is also housed at our Center. The funding will be combined for one position to increase public health outreach to underserved communities across Texas. For TCDS, this project aims to expand the public health workforce within disability networks and specifically at the Texas Center for Disability Studies (TCDS). We will collaborate with the Texas Technology Access Program to hire two public health facing personnel, one who is a professional in public health, social work, or related field; and the other who will be a community health worker and self-advocate. The goal of this program is to provide culturally affirmative and linguistically accessible information, facilitate access to needed healthcare and health and wellness programs, and activities that address social determinants of health. Personnel funded through this project will be expected to travel to underserved areas of Texas and conduct outreach for health and wellness related programs at TCDS, including outreach to underserved communities to improve access to and use of assistive technology for related public health issues. For TTAP (Texas Technology Access Program, this project aims to expand the public health workforce within disability networks and specifically at the Texas Technology Access Program (TTAP). We will collaborate with Texas Center for Disability Studies (TCDS) to hire a professional in public health, social work, or related field. The goal of this program is to provide culturally affirmative and linguistically accessible information, facilitate access to needed healthcare and health and wellness programs, and activities that address social determinants of health. Personnel funded through this project will be expected to travel to underserved areas of Texas and conduct outreach for health and wellness related programs at TCDS.
