Project Description:
Need: There is a shortage of related service personnel to address the transition planning needs of youth with high intensity needs to successfully transition to adulthood. Goals: The University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Department and the Texas Center for Disability Studies (TCDS), in collaboration with the Steve Hicks School of Social Work (SHSSW) and Department of Special Education (SPED) propose to enhance three nationally ranked masters programs by preparing related service educators to use evidence-based (EB) practices to improve transition outcomes for students with high intensity needs. Project BRIDGE: Building Related service capacity through InterDisciplinary Goals, Education, and Experiences will train a total of 24 pre-service scholars [8 Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), 8 Social Workers (SWs), and 8 Applied Behavior Analyst (ABA) professionals] to work as interdisciplinary teams to improve transition outcomes for youth with high intensity needs, particularly those ages 12-22.
