Project Description:
The University of Cincinnati UCEDD at the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, in concert with its Consumer Advisory Committee, utilizes its extensive experience in interdisciplinary programs, family/individual partnerships, and community collaboration to forward services and supports that promote optimal outcomes for individuals with DD and their families.
As part of it?s five-year plan, the UCEDD established several initiative areas as part of it's core functions of pre-service education, community education, technical assistance, and information dissemination. In addition to initiatives in the areas of health & fitness and emergency preparedness, examples of the initiatives include the following: 1) development and implementation of a model approach to improve deaf adolescents? health literacy and knowledge of their personal health histories; 2) development of a model curriculum for practicing physicians and allied health professionals in the community related to medical transition services; and 3) development of clear and concise guidelines/key questions for making Individual Education Plan (IEP) adaptations for diverse learning styles of children with DD which will result in parents being prepared, fully participating partners in their child?s IEP development.
