Project Description:
The UConn UCEDD will lead a multistate/country exploratory evaluation of the implementation of the Young Athletes (YA) mobile app to support young children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families in collaboration with Special Olympics International (SOI). This proposal will test the feasibility, relevance, usefulness, and effectiveness of the mobile app through a mixed method evaluation design that will include a participatory approach with end users who will assist in the development of the final evaluation questions and methodology. This methodology will produce richer and more useful evaluation data, while also building the capacity of program sites to create an evaluation culture that will sustain beyond this proposed evaluation. Using the mantra of the adult IDD self-advocacy movement: "nothing about us without us", all evaluation will include end users and consumers in the development of the final evaluation plan, and the interpretation of the results
