Project Description:
The Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence is providing an array of professional development, technical assistance, and consultation to The Arc New York to increase this statewide organization's capacity to increase its capacity for cultural and linguistic competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion to be responsive to the diverse population of people in New York state who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and the communities in which they live. The specific scope of work and objectives are: (1) Conducting a process to create a vision and develop a high level implementation plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and cultural and linguistic competence with The Arc New York; (2) Developing a series of web-based professional development sessions on advancing and sustaining cultural and linguistic competence within The Arc New York and its chapters; and (3) Recommending infrastructure and internal capacity to document, monitor, and evaluate ongoing efforts of The Arc New York to advance and sustain DEI and cultural and linguistic competence. Expected benefit of this project is improve policies and practices within The Arc New York and its chapters that underpin supports and services offered to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilties and their families from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and other identity groups.
