Project Description:
The proposed study aims to evaluate the accessibility and utilization of health wearables by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in their attainment of personal health goals. As a key partner, the University of Kansas (KU) will work in collaboration with DHS, DDCO, AbleTech, an Oklahoma State University (OSU), to address the overall study objectives. Data from the study will be used to determine the accessibility of wearable health technology data for individuals with intellectual disability and to establish utilization and implementation standards for future use of wearable technologies among this population. The party agrees to complete the following activities for an estimated $156,213 for two years of engagement.
Based on the proposed study design, an estimated total study sample of 75-100 adults with intellectual disability will be recruited for the pilot study. A convenience sample will be recruited from programming participant lists provided from the Institute, DDCO, and DDS. Based on previous rates of refusals and contact failures, it is anticipated that an oversampling of 130-150 individuals will need to be contacted to achieve the final sample of 100.
Each partner organization will contract individually with the funding agent to complete their respective project activities. A coordinated effort will be necessary for project execution. Formative evaluation will be performed by the University of Kansas via a Project Progress Tracker and reported quarterly to monitor partner progress. This means of project coordination will allow for the University of Kansas to report any challenges in project completion and make recommendations of modifications to the project plan if necessary. However, University of Kansas is not responsible for the failure of the respective partners to meet their objectives and contractual obligations.
