Project Description:
1003372-938 The mission of the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities (KUCDD) is to enhance the quality of life, self-determination, and inclusion of Kansans with developmental disabilities (DD) and their families through research, training, technical assistance, and community service. We have a rich, 53-year history of conducting high-quality research, leading model policy and practice development, supporting and empowering people with DD and their families, and providing interdisciplinary training, community services, and technical assistance. In partnership with our Consumer Advisory Council, people with DD and their families, DD network partners, and key stakeholders, we propose a plan to address the needs of Kansans with DD related to health, employment, early intervention, transition, recreation, childcare, technology, and self-determination. Our goals are aligned with DD Act priorities: (1) engage in interdisciplinary pre-service preparation and continuing education to increase the number of professionals, including professionals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; (2) provide training and technical assistance to people with DD, family members, and other stakeholders to enhance capacity of community supports and services to enable people with DD and their families to live integrated and fulfilling lives across the life course; (3) conduct basic or applied research, evaluation, and the analysis of public policy in areas that affect or could affect, either positively or negatively, people with DD and their families; and (4) serve Kansans and the UCEDD Network as a national and international resource for information dissemination to increase participation of people with DD and their families in research projects, training activities, and services that enhance quality of life, self-determination, and inclusion in community life.
