Project Description:
This project identifies and examines three key clinical parenting-focused interventions, which are profiled for their effectiveness in parenting and support of behavior management in child rearing of children with ASD. Using a literature review on best practices for parenting children with ASD, derived from multiple sources, including journal articles, clinical practice handbooks, and direct consultation with carious clinical practitioners, the review establishes three key clinical interventions relevant to parenting children with ASD. The profile of intervention effectiveness offers information pertaining to empirical evidence and clinical usefulness of the three interventions, availability, strengths and weaknesses, identifies limitations of current knowledge. The review of the current literature has identified three clinical interventions: PCIT, AFIRM and RUBI, which are used to help parents in their childrearing efforts for the management of difficult behaviors of children with ASD. The review of literature shows different levels of evidence for effectiveness, although clinical usefulness is fairly high. Limitations of current knowledge on these three interventions are provided as well.
