Project Description:
OSU is one of the largest non-profit public universities in the country. It is committed to the broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service. OSU is classified as R1: Doctoral Universities (highest research activity) in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The OSU IDD Psychology Training Program is a concentration area in intellectual and developmental disabilities within the OSU Psychology Graduate Program and is one of eight areas in the Department of Psychology. Its faculty members are housed at the Nisonger Center and contribute to the missions of both the Department of Psychology and the Nisonger Center. PCSAS accreditation was completed to realize our aim in being accredited by a body that embraces and values the training philosophy, scope of training, and goals of our educational mission. The science of psychology fully applies to individuals with IDD, just as in non-disabled groups, although it is a specialization in its own right. The IDD population comprises individuals with intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, and a myriad of other neurodevelopmental disorders. The primary mission of our training program is to train graduate students for clinical science leadership positions. Many of our graduates have research-oriented careers at universities, medical schools, and settings which integrate research along with professional services. We take a strong clinical science approach in our program. Our faculty is committed to a scientific approach in training our students in research, clinical assessment, and intervention. Our primary goal is producing graduates who are competent and successful at conducting research relevant to the assessment, prevention, treatment, and understanding of health and mental health disorders; and using science methods and evidence to design, develop, select, evaluate, implement, deliver, supervise, and disseminate empirically based assessments, interventions, and prevention strategies.
