** ND EHDI - OAE Screening Equipment
Project Description:
The ND EHDI Program provides technical assistance for developing and implementing a hearing health system of care in North Dakota. Not all children in North Dakota are birthed in healthcare facilities. Annually in ND, an average of 100 infants are birthed by lay midwives. Lay midwives do not have hearing screening equipment and do not currently provide newborn hearing screenings. Approximately 1,600 infants do not pass their first hearing screening. Excluding infants birthed at home, there are nearly 160 infants who are loss-to-follow-up on an annual basis. To minimize the loss-to-follow-up population, the purchasing of EroScan DP Screeners and supplies will support newborn hearing screening practices among lay midwives and public health clinics. The goal is to expand hearing screening options to those infants who do not obtain services through regular medical facilities.
