Families as Mentors

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2023
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The Families as Mentors (FAM) Program enhances the trainee's understanding of the family experience of raising a child with a neurodevelopmental disability. All UW LEND trainees participate in UW LEND "All-LEND Reads," a book club experience focused on a book addressing caregiver and provider partnership. Opportunities may be available for an expanded Families as Mentors experience in which the trainee is paired with a family and an individual with ASD/DD, and are invited by the family to participate in some of their daily life activities. Trainees participate in quarterly discussions moderated by Family and Self-Advocate faculty who share and reflect on their experiences.
